Sure when you go into a big box electronics store all you see is LCD or Plasma TVs on the display wall but there are many things the sales people aren’t telling or asking you such as additional costs or other more affordable HDTV options. Let’s set the record straight.
Some things to think about if you are considering a LCD or Plasma TV:
It may be deeper than you think – If you are not going to wall mount your TV then you will need to use the base or stand to support it. This significantly increases the depth of the unit, especially with larger screen size models – up to 17” depth for some models.
Additional cost to buy a wall mount support – If you are going to mount your TV on the wall you will probably need to purchase a wall mount unit/bracket to secure the TV to the wall. This will be an additional cost of up to $250 or more depending on the size and weight of the TV.
Additional wall mount installation labor & costs – Installing a TV wall mount bracket is probably more expensive and labor intensive then you think, especially if you aren’t handy. Here are some things to think about:
- Who is going to do the installation? You will most likely need to hire a professional and in some cases your insurance may require a professional installation.
- What is involved in the installation? This really depends on many things:
- Is the wall strong enough to support the weight of a heavy flat panel TV? This may require additional renovations to your wall.
- Do you want to hide the electrical and audio/video wires? If you do, you will most likely need to hire a professional to move and run wiring behind the desired wall(s).
- Installing the wall mount bracket to the wall and then attaching the heavy flat panel TV. This will probably require a professional with a team of 2 or more.
- How much will all this cost? This depends on your individual situation and it’s best to get a professional estimate upfront so you’ll know all the costs involved.
Then there is the “other” HDTV choice. Here are some things about DLP HDTVs that you probably don’t know:
As slim as flat panel TVs with base – DLP HDTVs are much slimmer than you think. They have similar depths to flat panel TVs when the base/stand is used, especially in larger screen size models.
Perfect corner TV – DLP HDTVs fit perfectly in the corner of a room. With a unique 45 degree angled design they work in corner better than LCD or Plasma TVs.
Super lightweight – DLP HDTVs are significantly lighter than flat panel TVs, especially the larger screen size models.
Stylish design – DLP HDTVs have a micro-thin bezel that gives you a bigger screen with less frame.
Most affordable BIG screen choice – DLP HDTVs are the most affordable BIG screen television choice. With screen sizes starting at 50” going all the way up to 73”, DLP HDTVs are the lowest price-per-inch HDTV technology.
